Math curriculum at Park Lane

Across all year groups, we promote a ‘Mastery approach’ towards teaching in learning. This works to ensure that all pupils have mastered key concepts, before moving onto the next phase of learning. Maths mastery allows children to acquire a deep and secured long-term understanding of each area taught.

EYFS –

In Foundation Stage the Maths curriculum is carefully designed to build up on the strengths and needs of all children across the year group. Our Maths curriculum consists of everything we want the children to experience, learn and do.

As a curriculum aid, we use the non-statutory document, Development matters. This document helps structure a development pathway for the children to reach their expected end of year target (Early Learning Goal).

Our 2022 Maths curriculum maps for each term can be found on tab ‘EYFS Maths’.

Y1 – Y6

Both KS1 & KS2 use White Rose Maths to sequence their planning and learning. White Rose Maths is an organisation that provides schemes of learning for Maths. The schemes of learning map out a yearly overview that breaks down learning into different weeks of the year, supporting children in mastering objectives from the National Curriculum.

The schemes of learning for each year group can be found on ‘WRM’ tabs.

Times table Rock stars -

This online platform is used from Year 2 up to Year 6. The program is used in school, as well as encouraged at home. It offers the opportunity for children to practise their times tables, in a way which promotes maths ability, speed and confidence.

Numbots -

This online platform is used across the whole school from Foundation Stage up to Year 6. The program is used in school as well as encouraged at home. It offers an understanding, recall and fluency in mental addition and subtraction, so that they move from counting to calculating.

Children have their own login details for both of the above platforms.

 Pre 99 club and 99 club -

Pre 99 club runs across the infants. This club builds upon basic number facts, improving children's mental calculation skills.

99 club then runs following completion of the pre 99 club. It works on testing the children on their learning of times tables and their increasing level of competence.

More information on these clubs can be found on the tabs.
